Learn to Dance
Ready to learn to dance? Not sure if it’s right for you?
Chances are, if you’ve landed on this page, you’re at least curious about learning to dance. And guess what?
Curiosity is pretty much all you need to get started with dancing.
How can I make that claim?
Because that’s literally how I got started.
And that’s coming from someone who genuinely believed that “I would never be a dancer.” It never crossed my mind that “Austin” and “is a dancer” would ever be in the same sentence.
Yet, now it’s my favorite thing in the world? How could that be?
A curiosity, followed by a willingness to TRY.
That’s all it takes.
Curiosity and a willingness to take one step forward.
Once I took my first lesson, I knew that I wanted to keep going with this “dance” thing.
My life hasn’t been the same ever since.
And all it took was pushing myself to reach out for a private lesson with someone nearby.
If you have an inkling of curiosity and “that would be cool…” thoughts going through your head, then you have to schedule a lesson.
It doesn’t matter if it’s with me or with someone else.
Please follow that curiosity.
You have no idea where it will take you.

I would be happy to play a part in helping you get your start with dancing, regardless of where you start.
I work and train out of The Anchor Room Dance Studio. Private and group lessons are available – and for a limited time I’m offering a “WCS Beginner Special” if you’re eager to get into West Coast Swing, or an introductory special if you’d like to start out with other social dances.
What to expect when learning to dance:
Learning to dance is an exciting opportunity to challenge yourself, meet new people, and explore a new hobby you’ll fall in love with.
It doesn’t matter your gender, age, or whether or not you have prior experience – or even a dance partner.
The dance community includes people of all ages, a wide range of skill levels (from first timers to multi-decade veterans), and countless career disciplines.
A private lesson is usually about 50 minutes long, depending on who you work with, and you’ll have an opportunity to talk about how you got curious about dance, what you want to learn, where you want to go with dance (whether it’s just exploring a curiosity, wanting to meet new people, or even wanting to get “really good at dance”). There’s no right or wrong answer – each person is different.
Your first private lessons will involve you learning the fundamentals of the dance(s) you are interested in learning.
You’re never expected to know any of the “basics” of the dance – that’s what the lessons are for! Any private instructor will work with you and help you at whatever skill level you’re at, whether you’re learning for the first time or looking to refine your dancing further as an experienced dancer.
My goal is to get you feeling comfortable with your chosen dances so that you can get out on the dance floor as early as possible.
Some people choose to jump right into “social dancing” within the first few lessons (it’s a great way to learn and meet people, too!) and others prefer to take a handful of lessons to get comfortable and secure with their dancing. Each person is different.
I’m here to help you get confident with yourself as you learn to dance, no matter if you have a little bit of dance experience already or are literally learning to dance for the very first time.
If you’re curious about learning to dance or are ready to get your start, send me a message and we’ll chat and see if I will be a good fit for you! If not, I can recommend others who fit your schedule or individual needs.
* For a limited time, a “WCS Beginner Special” or “Intro to Social Dancing” package is available. Send me an email or fill out the form below to get started!
Send me any questions, curiosities, concerns – anything! – that you have about dance and I’ll be happy to help you, even if you choose not to work with me. I’m always excited to meet and talk to new and upcoming dancers. I’m biased for loving dance, and it’s always exciting seeing people get their start. A dance community in Fort Wayne like ours thrives with people like you who are interested in learning how to dance!
So don’t hesitate (: Send me a message and let’s chat!

West Coast Swing is a style of swing dancing that is growing in popularity across the globe.
It’s known for its creativity, allowing each dancer to contribute and improvise within the dance. WCS can also be danced to most modern music, making it one of the most versatile dances.
